Kathy L. Dixon, 58, Anchorage, Alaska, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at home after a three-year battle with cancer.
Kathy was born Dec. 29, 1950 in Vincennes. She graduated from North Knox High School in 1969. She married Jim Dixon in Vincennes on June 19, 1971. She and her husband moved to Anchorage in 1982. Kathy was employed as a bookkeeper from 1969 until the birth of her daughter, Laura, in 1987. For the next 10 years, Kathy was a homemaker and school volunteer, assisting in other children’s activities and always helping neighbors.
In 1997, Kathy helped set up a business in which she was the office manager and a corporate officer until her death. Kathy was everyone’s mom at work, always willing to help anyone. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim Dixon of Anchorage; daughter Laura Dixon of Anchorage; brother Ross Adams of North Carolina; sisters Debbie Nestleroad of Lawrenceville, Ill., and Joy Vidimos of Indianapolis; mother-in-law Jean Dixon of Vincennes; brothers-in-law Pat, Mike and Chris, all of Vincennes, Bob of Princeton and Steve of Brownsburg; and sisters-in-law Marilyn Pea, Shirley Kiel and Janis McKinley, all of Vincennes, Ann Keyes of Lafayette and Susan Geick of Overland Park, Kan.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Helen Adams; and father-in-law Noble Dixon.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Church in Bruceville. A celebration of life will be held in Anchorage at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St.
Kathy always had a special place in her heart for children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics of Alaska in her honor.
